With the ‘Pop Ambient’ series the Cologne-based label Kompakt celebrated in the past few years an unfamiliar aspect of electronic music and showcased that it also can survive far away from dancefloors with booming basses and rave anthems.
The 2009 instalment includes tracks by Kompakt dinosaurs like Voigt, Burger or Klimek alongside with lesser known artists like Tim Hecker or Sylvain Chauveau. On soundcloud.com you get an exclusive prelisting. But watch out, suddenly you get lost in these endless seeming soundscapes and you’ll find yourself in front of your computer one hour later, not really able to describe what exactly happened – you just have this nebulous memory of fragile, melancholic melodies out of a wonderful different world.
This time the compilation appears in February, which is a bit late – the eight previous Pop Ambient compilations were all released in November – but not too late. It is a perfect companion for the last few winter days.
Pop Ambient 2009 appears on Kompakt (make sure you check their relaunched website!) on February 16, 2009
