Loop-loving composer Steve Reich has just been announced as the recipient of the venerated Pulitzer Prize. He can now count this amongst his other awards such as a Grammy and a Polar music prize. This particular award was given for his 2007 composition “Double Sextet”, which premiered last year the University of Richmond.
At 72, Reich’s output within the classical and contemporary music world over the last 50 years has been enormous, so it’s timely and fitting that such an honor would be bestowed upon him. Reich has been creating innovative music ever since being exposed to the world of classical music at a young age; it seems his dedication and tenure as a legendary figure in the avant-garde music world has finally paid off.
