Kompakt’s Michael Mayer and Jon Berry have not only jumped on the disco bandwagon, but on the spooky end of the line carriage. With their new Fright label, the duo are "dedicated to bringing you serial killer symphonies for the back alley discos of the macabre", which in layman’s terms means they are going to be putting out soundtrack horror disco a la Goblin and John Carpenter.
Ever since Justice shoved the then-little-known “Tenebre” by Goblin into the limelight with their “Phantom” single, interest in the sub genre of horror disco and horror movie soundtracks has been on the increase.
Fright’s debut release is from Chicago’s Gatekeeper with his EP Optimus Maximus, an atmospheric four tracker with shades of John Carpenter and even Jan Hammer. Coincidentally, it is out just days before Halloween, on October 26. Spooky.
