Connoisseur-of-odd James Pants will be issuing his new LP Seven Seals on the venerable beats label Stones Throw this week. Improbably, the album will come out on cassette, as well as CD and vinyl.
The release sees Pants delving even further into psychedelia and weirdo mysticism. Earlier this year, the prolific Pants released a brilliant compilation titled Psychik Almanack Vol. 1, which followed up his lauded 2008 debut LP Welcome. Psychik Almanack Vol. 1 was a studiously researched library album that unearthed infectious obscure gems and little known past oddities.
Pants maintains a similarly strange direction for Seven Seals; he was recently quoted on the Stones Throw site as saying, “the album was made while reading mystical books and the book of Revelations, and inspired by being in the mood to start a cult. This is the cult’s soundtrack.”
Seven Seals will be released December 8, 2009. Check out the new tune “Thin Moon” right here.
