Ostgut Ton, the record label of Berlin’s techno Mecca Berghain / Panorama Bar, are releasing a very special record for their five year anniversary. The two disc compilation called Fünf is made up of tracks that take their DNA from field recordings made throughout the club when it was closed to the public.
German based producer Emika recorded everything from the fridges to the swings, to the sound of the strobes on the lighting rig to create a library of sounds from the the famous venue. These sounds – compromising over 4GB – were given to a selection of the clubs’ residents and affiliated producers who used the recordings as the basis for a new production.
Artists involved in the project include many familiar faces such as Boris, Steffi, Prosumer, and Cassy. Scuba also makes an appearance under his SCB moniker.
We wonder what sounds they got from the dark room….
