Whether you know them or not, Horsepower Productions are arguably one of the most important imprints in bass music. They are what you would call true pioneers, along with a few others they led a scene that has seen its influence spread all over the world.
It seems unimaginable that pop music efforts by the likes of Skream, Magnetic Man, Benga and Katy B are topping the UK charts, with the likes of US mega stars such as Snoop and Eve all coming to the UK for the Dubstep treatment. However, none of this would have been possible without the first Horsepower Productions album that literally created the dubstep genre as we know it today.
Horsepower’s first album, which came out in 2002, was critically acclaimed and heralded by a small community of folk as amazing – it was little known outside a tiny community. Since then the scene that they helped create has gone on to become much more than anyone would have imagined, and now they are back with their second album.
The sequel to In Fine Style comes in the shape of the aptly named Quest For the Sonic Bounty, a 9-track album released on long time label partner’s Tempa. For those of you who can’t wait till the release, there are some previews of tracks on YouTube.
