We all have those days where we just kind of roll out of bed like sludge, drape whatever’s laying around on ourselves, cram shades over crusted eyes and slouch outside to find post-party salvation. It’s sort of a perpetual soundtrack if you’ve ever lived in LA. Lapalux has taken that aching pulse that echoes in the mind and limbs, the glare of sun behind palm trees at one pm, and injected it into Gwen Stefani‘s 2004 single ‘Luxurious’. Brighton’s Bobby Champs doesn’t mess around. His debut Moonlight EP specialised in brash, rough-around-the-edges-house which appealed directly to the pleasure principle. Follow up EP Drag Queen, released via Pictures Music (who include the likes of Lapalux and Rudi Zygadlo on their roster) teases his big room sound in a slightly odder direction, while maintaining the kinetic strut of his debut. – more
