Valentine’s day; love it or hate it? While everybody seems to be buying gifts and flowers or saying the words they don’t say to their beloved ones throughout the rest of the year (and spamming other people’s Facebook timeline while they’re at it), this commercial and ‘ramontic’ holiday is still a nice opportunity to listen to some new music.
First up this morning was Scottish mixmaster Hudson Mohawke, who’s presenting his Valentines Slowjams Chapter V mix. The 43 minute-long mix is currently available as a free download via the LuckyMe imprint in return of an email address; listen to the mix below, leave your contact details here for the free download.
This one’s more a magazine mix, but the timing and music is just very fitting, since you can never do wrong with 52 minutes of Prince – mixed by Stones Throw artist and future funk producer D?M-FunK. This mix comes for the Wax Poetics ten-year anniversary issue which is mostly about the artist previously (and now again) known as Prince, also D?M-FunK blended his own track into this tour de force. In case you’re more the blue mood kind of person you’ll love this: Michail Stangl aka Opium Hum just lined up his favourite Thirteen Songs for the Lonely, Sullen and Ill-tempered, compiling moody tracks by The Smiths, This Mortal Coil, The xx, Type O’ Negative, Portishead, and more. Okay, this one’s not Valentine’s day related at all, but it’s related to love. Dixon played Boiler Room Berlin the other day, and since the broadcast was interupted due to technical problems, Innervisions was kind enough to upload the Dixon mix containing many unreleased tracks for you to listen to.

UPDATE 5:22 pm: Cologne based producer and EB resident Ada has just delivered a Valentine’s mix for Inverted Audio. Besides a download, Ada also shared her thoughts in interview form with IA, stating that the mix “is not a ‘music to fall in love with-mix’ and honestly I’ve never celebrated Valentine’s Day. I mostly know about it from commercials that remind you to buy flowers for your loved one. So I hope I’ve made an appropriate first valentine’s mix.” Isn’t this just disarmingly charming?
