Former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt once coined the phrase “If you’re having visions, go see your doctor.” One might think Berlin-based artist Shed agrees: “I think it is very difficult to have new visions (these days)”, the 50Weapons and formerly Ostgut Ton associated producer said in our Slices Magazine video feature.
“To call me a techno-visionary is not just exaggerated, it’s plainly wrong. My so-called visions just come from visions other people had twenty years ago”, René Pawlowitz continued. One might want to add the word ‘understatement’ here, since his productions are usually built upon a dark foundation of bone-dry Brandenburg techno and broken beats; or that his alter egos EQD, Head High, Wax, and Shed are highly musically focussed, modern, and forward-thinking—but well.
While driving around his old hometown of Schwedt, the now Berlin-based artist talks conceptual production and self-discipline, the search for new sounds, and the politics of techno from the old days. While we’d like to also remind you of our Shed radio mix, we recommend you to watch our Shed Slices feature now—available in full HD video.
