Vienna’s Museums Quarter was a feast of sounds and images for the more than 1,500 guests who attended the fourth Electronic Beats Festival there on October 18th.
Swedish newcomers, Lo-Fi-Fnk kicked-off the night and got the crowd going with their electro-pop beats and strong synthesized sounds. As the room filled with fans lucky enough to get their hands on one of the sold-out tickets, the duo launched into their snappy tunes such as ‘City’ and ‘Steppin’ Out’ to start an upbeat mood that would continue to elevate as the night progressed.
The Whitest Boy Alive came next with infamous front-man Erlend Øye who by the second song had the crowds crouching ‘as low as they could go’ before springing back to their feet on his command. With a new album out next year, the group already has an immediate following of fans who cheered loudly for their impressive live set.
The much anticipated Tricky took the stage next with a dynamic light show and on-stage presence. His inclusion of a female back-up singer enhanced his show even more and brought the crowds to a new level.
Equipped with 20 projectors, the Gorillaz Sound System provided an engaging performance using images from the album artwork and videos. DJs along with an MC performed the famous Gorillaz songs as well as a set of remixes that had fans jumping.
Berlin-based Booka Shade finished off the night, which by then had turned into the morning hours. Many in the crowd had come to see the two stars who seemed to enjoy being on-stage as much as their fans enjoyed hearing their innovative beats. Throughout the night, DJ Observer spinned tracks between artist performances, creating a party atmosphere and keeping the energetic vibe going.
If you missed the Electronic Beats Festival in Vienna have no fear – highlights of the night will soon be posted here and the entire show will be broadcast on Go-TV in Austria during the coming weeks. Hope to see you at the next Festival in Prague on November 14th!
