TODAY WE LIKE: Salzburg’s Carhouse

Fanfare for new eco has hit somewhat of a craze. For all the right reasons hotels, transportation and utilities have all jumped on the bandwagon. Stadtbaumeister of Salzburg, Austria, are applying the same sustainable techniques across the country's sleepy mountain towns.

Their newest addition is the THE CAR and according to the companies mission statement will, “harmonize with the local surroundings”. Now, I respectfully disagree with the statement, (when was the last time you saw an oversized car in Austria’s alpine pastures?), but it is nonetheless an extraordinary building.

Transforming a 70’s style house with a modern car design incorporates both art and architecture all into one piece. The building goes on to institute a “3 liter” energy efficient heating and insulation technique that optimizes all current technologies thus drastically reducing energy consumption.

With new architecture designs popping up everywhere hopefully the development for a sustainable living will continue.
