Oozing soulful confidence, Andreya Triana is a singing songwriter who has quickly become the undergrounds go-to gal. Having already rubbed shoulders with Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish, Mr. Scruff and a rumored collaboration with Mount Kimbie in the works, Triana has shown that she is a prized and respected artist waiting in the wings.
Based in Brighton, the sultry singer began her musical love affair as early as seven, taking inspiration from her sundry surroundings and mixed cultural background. It was not until she moved to Worcester and met with soulful trio Bootis in 2003 that her real musical education began.
After two years of extensive gigging with Bootis, she decided in 2005 to start her own solo career. Largely influenced by Jazz, Funk and Nu Soul, she did a solo vocal set called FreeFlow Sessions which she submitted to the inspiring Red Bull Music Academy. She was then one of sixty people accepted worldwide, understandably.
Things just avalanched after that, she was snapped up by Ninja Tune, and started singing for the legendary trip-jazz collective Bonobo who incidentally produced her debut album. Further rumors have been flying that label-mate Fink will appear as well on the album, titled Lost Where I Belong.
To top it all off, she recently popped up in the New York Times as a breakthrough artist. Her lead single ‘Lost Where I Belong’ was deemed, “Hypnotic … and soulful”
This is one gal you will be hearing a hell of a lot more of.
You can watch and listen to the track below.
Expect Andreya Triana’s album out August 23, 2010.
