ONES TO WATCH - DELS

The truth is DELS has been one to watch for some time now. In fact, ever since he was discovered by John Peel in a chip shop rapping and rhyming and was subsequently asked to appear on the Peel Sessions on Radio One at the age of 18.

It seems DELS has always been making music and mostly with long time cohort Eli-T. However, it wasn’t until a chance encounter with Joe Goddard of Hot Chip fame that things really took off.

His first EP (with production from Joe Hot Chip) came in 2008, and was released by hip indie label Moshi Moshi - seemingly a strange choice to run with a label whose previous output has seen them championing artists such as Florence and the Machine, Slow Club, Friendly Fires and Slow Club. Or not.

DELS’ music is seriously diverse, and although its roots lie somewhere between Hip Hop and R&B, it sounds much more like a leftfield, electronic assault. Production duties come from the who’s who of the musically young and restless: Kwes who has produced for the like of The XX and Thecocknbullkid, aforementioned Joe Goddard as well as Micachu and Drums of Death of Greco-Roman fame.

DELS is part of a new breed of musicians, whose musical output transcends genres and scenes. Much like the city he lives, DELS’ music references all manners of music and the product is fresh, original, exciting and fiercely electronic.
