Buzz has become a dirty word in the music world: full of unfair expectations and short shelf life. Luckily, London duo Mount Kimbie seem to be avoiding the swampy end of this descriptive with the emotionally arresting and atmospheric tracks on their unusually strong and unconventional debut EP “Maybes”.
Mount Kimbie are Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, and although these 20somethings have been labeled dubsteppers, their music is a mix of Eno-esque subtleties, with shades of Animal Collective and dark progressive production.
The duo began making music in a home studio in Peckham, then signed to Scuba’s Hotflush recordings and have since completed a fabulous remix for 4AD doomsters The Big Pink, which you can download here. As Resident Advisor recently noted, “Eyes about, ears open: Mount Kimbie are here.” We concur.
Second EP “Sketch On Glass” will be released as a 12” on July 27, via Hotflush.
