Phil Dairmount, founder and boss of brand new Hamburg label A Room With A View, proves his unique perspective on the first installment of the accordingly named EP series. The five-track compilation perfectly captures the current zeitgeist while fusing house and techno.

The EP is opened by a dark tech house track called “The Answer (Main Pass)” from Toronto-based deep house pioneer Abacus. Bulky, pushing bass, straight percussion elements and echoing noise samples allow the track to revel in deep waters. Shur-I-Kan’s edit of Sygaire’s “Time Is Now” is a neat tropic house track while Sasse’s remix of Petter & Dairmount “Subakuatik Blues” is a rather spacey one. The label boss’ “Bass-Ment Tale” collaboration with Marino Berardi is an odyssey which voyages from bass-heavy techno to weirdo deep house while Marlow’s “Fonk (Raw Mix)” wows with its jazzy intro and contrabass solo outro. The fascinating interplay between pianos and congas serve to make “Fonk” the star of the compilation.

From where we sit, this label seems to have a great view from their room.
