Alan Aldridge Exhibition

Exhibition for one of illustration's great minds

03/11/2008

text: Jessica Binsch

Psychedelic graphics, surreal, flashy and subtle at the same time – the work of the “Man with the Kaleidoscope Eyes” is as broad as it is innovative. Alan Aldridge has designed album artwork for musicians such as the Beatles, Elton John, the Rolling Stones or the Who and can be considered one of the great minds of illustration. While seeming reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s at first, his work really is timeless.

The retrospective at the Design Museum London, the first one in the UK for the designer, covers his work related to music as well as his endeavors into the illustration of children’s books and at Penguin books. It includes rare looks at sketches, notes, letter and other material as well as a film showing Alan in his element.

As an inspiration to many talents after him, this exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the magic of Alan’s illustrations.

Design Museum London
Until January 25, 2009
On Friday, Dec 5, open until 10 pm
