To commemorate the great fires of London and Rome, the Italian design triumvirate BBM created a pair of simplistic yet mesmerizing fireplace screens titled 1666 and DCCCXVII A.U.C, after the years of the tragedies.
The fire filtering screens are made of laser cut steel, and represent the present-day skylines of London and Rome. In front of the flames, you can see iconic London buildings like the Gurken, House of Parliament, Big Ben and Tower Bridge, or regal Roman structures like the impressive Colosseum, one of the elegant obelisks, and St. Peter’s beautiful Basilica.
The BBM project came together in 2009 with industrial designers Alessio Baschera, Fabio Brigolin and Matteo Mocchi, who enjoy burning cities more in art than in practice.
