Publishing giant BMI has slapped a lawsuit on one of the more infamous live music venues in New York, Pianos. According to Brooklynvegan.com, “BMI claim that the venue caused ‘great and incalculable damage’ for illegally playing favorites as "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer; the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black"; and Europe’s 1986 hit, "Final Countdown".”
This has to represent the height of desperation for the music industry; ironically it’s bars like Pianos that truly help underground artists to become celebrated. Nonetheless rules are rules and over the last few years’ lawsuits of this kind have become more prevalent. So you never know: hipsters in the Lower East Side might be listening to the sounds of silence in the near future.
