We all know that Germany practically invented modern techno, and that Germans have a long and rich musical history, but Germany actually inventing music itself? Well not quite, but close. Scientists in Southwest Germany have discovered in a cave what is believed to be the world’s oldest musical instrument - a flute made from the bone of a Griffon Vulture -- along with fragments of another two ivory flutes, believed to have been made from the tusks of a woolly mammoth.
Discovered last autumn in the Hohle Fels Cave, details of the ancient instruments --believed to be over 30,000 years old – were only just released to the public. According to the report in the New York Times, the earliest solid evidence of musical instruments previously came from France and Austria, but dated far more recently than 30,000 years ago.
