Looking back at the best music of 2009

As a small token of our year-end appreciation, we thought we’d feature some of favorite ‘best of’ 2009.

As the year nears its end, many music publications are taking stock of what caught their ears musically. It’s always good to get the lowdown of what our peers are listening too. We’ve got Fact magazine’s alternative mish-mash in the mix, putting together their top 40 albums which include artists: DAM-FUNK, DJ Sprinkles, and of course Animal Collective.

Little White Earbuds continues to educate us, putting together a quality overview of 2009 in techno and house, anointing STL’s “Silent State” as the top tune of the year.

Whilst we turn our heads to Resident Advisor, who constantly provide a source of inspiration, they have put together quite a few lists which cover the best tracks, albums, compilations, live acts, DJs, and labels.

Obviously, the more indie side of things have been taken care of via Pitchfork’s staff, with their 50 best of albums feature and 100 best tracks review which include post-dub stepper Zomby, moody trio The XX and psychedelic pop group Girls.

We can’t wait for 2010 to start, we’re anticipating great things from Four Tet’s newie, The Avalanches, if they ever get their s##t together, and of course the Kember produced sophomore LP by MGMT.

Have a listen to STL’s “Silent State” to get you in the festive New Years mood.
