Can the Fabric mix series really be on it's 43rd installment? Yes, it would seem. The latest producer(s) to step up to the decks and craft us a mix are Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, better known under their Metro Area moniker.
I for one am surprised that this is the first time they have been asked to contribute, especially when you bear in mind their influence on electronic music over the last few years. Having spied the tracklisting, I can tell you that the more obvious disco sounds associated with the duo have mostly been left behind and they instead take us an journey into that much maligned chapter of musical history - the mid 1980's. Knowing a thing or to about that period myself, I can tell you there is plenty of experimental, unique and - most importantly - good music to be found there - it's not all Jennifer Rush and Pat Benatar.
There are a couple of more well known artists like Heaven 17 with their groundbreaking Penthouse And Pavement, as well as songs from Devo and Voyage. But on the whole, it is the not so familiar; Atmosphere, Plez and World Premiere, as well as certain Baby Oliver (rumored to be none other that a shy Morgan Geist) where the really interesting stuff will be found. I for one, am very excited.
