Detroit is where it all started: techno music was born here late in the last century, fueled by artists' creativity and technological advances. This week, technology envaded the scene of music again when a Honda robot led the Detriot Symphonic Orchestra in a performance.
The 98 musicians played the song "Impossible Dream"- surely not chosen coincidentally. The humanoid robot ASIMO led the orchestra through the piece, which went quite well, accoring to musicians. The performance was held to draw attention to the DSO's work with schoolchildren through their The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund. Honda recently donated one million to this fund, which is used to provide musical education for children from less affluent families.
The robot also "visited" a school in Detroit. Honda spokesman Jeffrey Smith said that a commercialization of robots like ASIMO "is closer than you think." (via News.NineMSN). Now that would be an impossible dream come true.
