Global auction house Phillips de Pury & Company will be staging a music-inspired contemporary art sale. This is the third time the English company has organized such an event, but this time they’ve invited avant-garde electronic luminary Matthew Herbert to provide the day’s soundtrack. This is the first art auction to ever be conducted with live music.
The public sale will include pieces by pop culture icons such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Helmut Newton, Martin Kippenberger, David LaChapelle, Sam Taylor Wood and 25 photos from the Rankin/destroy project. Two Damien Hirst paintings that became The Hours’ album covers are expected to fetch upwards of £300,000 pounds.
Musicians who tinker in art, such as Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran, Bjork, Marilyn Manson, Little Boots, Pete Doherty and Moby, are also lining up to have their works sold.
The event takes place at the Howick Place headquarters on November 21 and will be led by auction house owner Simon de Pury. There’s a lot more going on, so we suggest heading over to the website to browse the catalogue. Happy bidding.
