This month, independent London music outlet Rough Trade will open a record concession inside of Topman, located on the top floor of Topshop’s Oxford Circus flagship.
This business arrangement represents both confidence that physical CD sales are still worth fighting for, and a strongly held belief that fans of fashion are also fans of music. Rough Trade is known for its sense of community and exclusive in-store appearances, and while the plans with Topshop might detract from the former, they’ll definitely enhance the latter.
The director of Rough Trade Retail Group, Stephen Godfroy, told the Financial Times that the opening “supports Rough Trade’s belief that the CD format is as popular as ever [and] that it is largely the poor high street retail of CDs that is to blame for declining sales on this format.”
Happy shopping.
