Dj Humus aka Elie Eidelman was born in 1975 in the Big Apple, but raised in Jerusalem. He started DJing 15 years ago with an unorthodox blend of European rave and punk rock and has since brought frenzy to many sweaty dancefloors around the globe. In 1997 through 2002, Eidelman, along with a collective of musicians and promoters who went by 100 Meters Beneath The Ground, organised many of the largest underground raves in the Middle East.
In 1998, the man-about-town moved to Tel Aviv to be part of the flourishing club scene. After several years of peace, the city was quickly becoming one of the most vibrant nightlife metropolises in the world. During this era, Eidelman served as a monthly resident for major alternative dance clubs Dinamo Dvash and Sofabeat and founder of the lines Crispy Creamy at Kosmonaut and Sweatshop.
Here is where he formed his freestyle attitude of blending and stirring different genres of music, playing against normal conventions of a single genre per performance. Although he utilises versatile styles, there is always a distinct feel of funk and emotion, whether he’s spinning techno, disco, dub, house, italo or pure soul.
Around this time, he also started working as journalist and music critic for the Jerusalem Post and was also involved in all production and event aspects for the 42 ma'alot culture magazine. After that, he became the publisher of the vinyl review magazine Junkers, as well as a freelance writer and photographer for various publications.
Today, Eidelman is based in Berlin, where he is a resident at the au courant Tape Club and works at the Support Agency, booking artists and events. He also produces as one half of Pitsui, along with his partner, Weaver and founded nights such as Half Off and Blackout. What’s next for Eidelman? Only the next revolution.
