Format:B

More than B-side artists

While Franziskus was taught the piano during early childhood, Jakob was playing the bass guitar from the age of 15 and travelling through contrasting styles. He began playing in hardcore bands, but soon joined funk and jazz combos. Franziskus' musical explorations happened at the legendary E-Werk in Berlin in 1993. In short, both members found themselves embroiled in techno fanaticism and feeling the urge to produce music.

As a logical consequence, they soon became friends. After spending some party nights together, they decided to launch a project and Format:B was born. The common studio time soon led to a release on Highgrade Records, which is still their main home. Besides releasing some EPs and their album "Steam Circuit" there, Format:B have maintained a presence playing clubs and festivals internationally and remixing artists like Butch, Philipp Wolgast and Rainer Weichhold. Their particular style might be best described as Tech House, with an approach that is more functional than aesthetic, and focused solely on the dancefloor.
