Gavin Herlihy--Session for Electronic Beats Radio, 2009-07

After a career as a dance culture pundit, Gavin Herlihy had a quick start entering the producer’s circus, releasing eight EPs and 12”s in just three years on Moodmusic, Paradigma, Kindisch, True to Form, Leftroom, Cocoon Recordings and Cadenza. His 2006 Moodmusic debut “Machine Ate My Homework” (Hendrik Schwarz also started his producing career on Sasse’s imprint!) saw support from Laurent Garnier, Luciano, DJ Hell and Paul Oakenfold. His discography shows versatile production skills spanning epic techno in his early releases, thrifty, deeply textured and forward thinking tracks on the Cadenza 12” “26 miles” and more functional techno tools on his 10” “Collect” for Cocoon Recordings.

In this hallucinogenic-inspired mix for Electronic Beats Radio, Herlihy adds spiritual significance by processing extracts from a Timothy Leary monologue on LSD, instructions by Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi from “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind Part 1” and spoken word from Marvin Gaye (stage dialogue) and Amir D. Aczel ('Entanglement: the Greatest Mystery in Physics (Unabridged). He successfully weaves these psychedelic gems into the suspense curve of his super mix, which features Lump, Alex Kid, Intstra:mental, Wareika, Philus, Jeff Mills and Martyn’s reinterpretation of Efdemin’s strange, but divine club hymn “Acid Bells”.
