Henrik Schwarz & Dixon

House classicists and soulboys at heart

Henrik Schwarz hails from South Germany, where he also took his first steps as a DJ, and started to do his own productions in 1992. After finishing his studies, Schwarz moved to Berlin in 1999 and worked as a graphic designer. There Schwarz met Sasse, who released the "Supravision EP" on his imprint Moodmusic. Gilles Peterson dug the track "Marvin" and played it during his show, which aroused a demand for Henrik Schwarz as a remixer. It was then that Schwarz and Sasse founded Sunday Music, where Schwarz released his second EP "Jon". The third EP on Moodmusic, "Chicago", was successful enough to allow Schwarz to shift his activities from design towards music production.

After that, the remix Coldcut's "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" was one of the big club hits in 2006, and that same year’s mix for !K7's DJ-Kicks series was rated "one of the highlights of the series", leading to a Henrik Schwarz Live release on the same label in 2007. After remixing such artists as Tosca, James Brown, Omar, Stevie Wonder, Jazzanova, Jesse Rose and Alex Smoke, Schwarz produced "Where we at" with Ame and Dixon – none other than Derrick Carter provided the vocals. The track marked the beginning of a close relationship between Schwarz and Innervisions. Since then Amampondo and Henrik Schwarz’s "I Exist Because Of You", Ane Brun’s "Headphone Silence" (Henrik Schwarz remix) and Unkle’s "Hold My Hand" (Innervisions Orchestra remix) have been released.

Dixon aka Steffen Berkhahn turned out to be a good co-partner. He had 15 years of impassioned DJing experience, and together with Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann runs the three-year-old Innervisions label. Founded in 2005 during the peak phase of minimal hype, the label quickly became a continuum for deep and soulful house music and evolved to a reliable seal of quality in the field of ambitious music. Now, Innervisions boasts an artist roster including Laurent Garnier, Stefan Goldmann, Tokyo Black Star, Marcus Worgull, Chateau Flight and, of course, the owners themselves.

Dixon's fertile relationship with Ame and Henrik Schwarz led to their critically acclaimed release "The Grandfather Paradox: A Journey Through 50 Years of Minimalistic Music", a double mix CD which gives space artists as diverse as Steve Reich, Conrad Schnitzler, John Carpenter, Moondog, Robert Hood and Raymond Scott. The release allows the diversity of minimal music to shine through, and perhaps even creates a new understanding of the genre.
