Great London club nights are far and few between, but one that has become an institution is Horse Meat Disco. Starting in Chinatown in 2003, the night created by James Hillard and Jim Stanton eventually wound up at the very popular Eagle London in Vauxhall. Officially positioning themselves as a “queer party for everyone”, Horse Meat Disco recently decided to expand their mini disco empire by releasing a double CD and undertaking a semi-world tour. This is fitting, as the club night has become a premier platform where disco pioneers like Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Dimitri from Paris, Maurice Fulton, and Daniele Baldelli show their stripes.
Horse Meat Disco’s open-minded polysexual crowd is not just exposed to stereotyped disco classics, but a tasteful selection of deep and italo house, acid and early electro funk, as curated by club veterans James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Severino and Luke Howard. Visiting DJs have often described the night as a magical gathering where certain records bloom like nowhere else, and this mix is proof of that.
