Jazzanova´s Jürgen von Knoblauch shares some gems

The Berlin-based collective draws together the diverse talents of Jürgen von Knoblauch, Alexander Barck, Class Brieler, Stefan Leisering, Axel Reinemer and Roscow Kretschmann.

The six friends share a passion for digging, spinning and producing nearly every form of dance-oriented music, especially jazz and bossa nova. Subsequently, Jazzanova was formed in 1995 as a testament of the group’s love for the genres.

Jazzanova was first spotted by BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson, who liked the group’s production "Fedime’s Flight", an uptempo Brazilian jazz song and played it on his show in 1997. The same year "Fedime's Flight" infiltrated the underground, Jazzanova partnered with the Munich-based Compost label to form JCR (Jazzanova Compost Records). They also founded the "Sonar Kollektiv", which now claims more than 200 catalogue releases.

In following years, Jazzanova busied themselves by doing DJ sets around the globe and remixes for artists like Calexico, Rainer Trüby, MJ Cole, Liquid Lounge, Incognito, Eternal Sun, King Britt and Ursula Rucker, Koop and Roy Davis Junior. In 2002, the nu-jazz figureheads released their first full-length studio album "In Between", today deemed to be both a classic and a milestone for electronic jazz.

After compiling the remix albums "Playlist" and "…Mixing", Jazzanova was summoned by celebrated jazz label Blue Note to curate two instalments of the series "Blue Note Trip".
In the latest edition, well-known jazz artists like Horace Silver, Grant Green, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Gary Bartz and Andrew Hill are mixed in with the modern sounds of Raul Midón, David Bowie, Pat Metheny and Madlib. Then came the "The Remixes 2002-2005", which featured Masters at Work, Eddie Gale, Marcos Valle, Calexico and The Free Design and came with a blank CDR so fans could burn a copy for their friends.

In October 2008, Jazzanova’s second studio album "Of All The Things" was released. This time, the group decided to write the songs by themselves and use only live-recorded samples. The soulful result is a delicious love letter to the past that definitely got us moving.
