Kikumoto Allstars--Session for Electronic Beats Radio, 2009-07

In the spirit of early Chicago house protagonists like Marshall Jefferson and Larry Heard, Kikumoto Allstars aka Cam Farrar pulls us back to the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. This is when the sound of the Roland TB-303 developed what the acid house movement is still known for: squeaky, drastic and shattering synth lines.

There’s hardly a sub-genre in dance music that wasn’t technically influenced by that early period of house. Farrar’s studio shelters a veritable Rolodex of vintage production equipment and offers an endless playground for interaction with machines. This dedication to analogue hardware is reflected in Kikumoto Allstars’ debut album “House Music”, handpicked by DJ Hell. With International Deejay Gigolo Records, Kikumoto Allstars found a label known for its fascination with forgotten eras, and for pushing their artists to push their nostalgic tunes into the current musical climate.

For Electronic Beats Radio, Farrar pulls out close-to-historic influences like “Fast Eddie” Smith and Runaway and mixes them with tracks from present techno ambassadors Audion, Steve Mac, I:Cube, and some tunes of his own.
