Kris Menace

Demonstrating the manifold ways of idiosyncratic musical expression

Frenchman Christophe Hoeffel had been producing music for a decade when he decided to use Kris Menace as alter ego. 'Discopolis' was one of his first releases as Kris Menace and evolved into a style defining anthem. It was one of the most successful dance tunes in 2005. Defected signed the track and enlisted Kerri Chandler, Chris Lake and Alan Braxe to give it a new treatment. The track inspired many producers to work towards a new progressive house sound, in order to move the masses.

Kris Menace also runs his own label Work it Baby where he releases house related stuff from the likes of Serge Santiago, Patrick Alavi, Jaunt and Fred Falke. With Compuphonic he created another imprint focussing the more technoid and drifty facets of club music. Since the launch of Compuphonic in 2006 the label has released extraordinary tunes such as 'Voyage', 'Fairlight' (feat. Fred Falke), 'Steamroller', 'Jupiter' and 'The Latter', which was one of the most downloaded tracks on Beatport in 2006. Additionally, several of Kris' remixes have gone to No. 1 in European Dance Charts.

In 2008 Kris Menace liaised with UK band Spooky to release 'Stereophonic', one of the hottest club anthems of the year and teamed up with mighty Felix da Housecat to create 'Artificial' which was determined to become one of the most played Balearic tunes.

As Kris Menace has been quite busy over the years he didn't hurry preparing an album, but took the time music and art need to grow and mature. The result is named 'Idiosyncrasies', a 3-disc-debut album showcasing 37 tracks. Past productions that may be regarded as dance classics are mixed up with present tunes. On Disc One, Kris makes elegant moves through the sounds of several decades but always keeps his eye on the floor. Disc Two offers space for exploration of chill and electronica-inspired tunes while Disc Three puts together Kris' Best-of Remix works.
