Marc Romboy

Marc Romboy merges contrasting and diverse influences from two decades of techno into one soulful album

Romboy first discovered dance music when Chicago sound immersed him in the mid ‘80s. Back then Steve Silk Hurley's "Jack Your Body" seemed to be "from a different universe". But it was only after a deep fascination with the techno and house scenes of the early ‘90s that he decided to start producing himself. Along with his friend Klaus Derichs, Romboy bought a TB-303, an Akai sampler and a mixing desk. After releasing on labels like See Saw, Adam & Eve and Rising High, Romboy and Derichs founded their own label Le Petit Prince in 1994. Just one year after launching, it was voted Germany's most popular label by Groove magazine, and released tracks from Microwave Prince, Emmanuel Top, Thomas P. Heckmann and Phuture until it closed its doors in 2000.

By 2004, the time for Romboy's second label Systematic had come. Strictly dedicated to the dancefloor, the sound of Systematic could be described as a fusion of early Chicago house drafts combined with the complex and funky appeal of mid-eighties electro-breakdance-rap visionaries and topped off with a freaky acid party touch. Romboy and Booka Shade produced the first Systematic release. During the last years Romboy has collaborated with producers like John Dahlback, Chelonis R. Jones, Jence from Digitalism and Zoo Brazil and released records by Robert Owens, Blake Baxter, Stephan Bodzin, Gui Boratto, Sprit Catcher and Dusty Kid. Romboy – both as solo artist and in collaboration with his mates Bodzin and Tanzmann – has also appeared on imprints including Ovum, Simple, Brique Rouge, Superstition, 20:20 Vision, Giant Wheel and Herzblut.

In June Romboy will release his second artist album "Contrast" on Systematic featuring vocal collaborations with Chelonis R. Jones, Blake Baxter and K-Alexi. But now we have a coherent 1-hour-piece of music featuring Stimming's "The Kiss" revisited by Ripperton, several collaborations with Chelonis R. Jones, D'Julz remixes and Moodyman's "MF" edited by Catz n'Dogs. Enjoy!
