Enhancing soul and Motorcity history with a whiff of jazz and an impressive grasp for deep harmonies

Matthias Vogt and Christian Rindermann met while working for Groove magazine and teamed up for Motorcitysoul in 2003. In the studio, DJ and producer Rindermann aka C-Rock revealed himself to be an ideal partner for Vogt, who had profound experience in the field of jazz, both as musician, label owner for InfraCOM! and as a DJ. Consequently they joined forces and now Vogt’s knowledge of music theory and jazz harmony compliments C-Rock’s engineering know-how and feeling for the needs of the dancefloor.
The name of the project offers little range for interpretation in terms of the duo’s sound characteristics. Obviously, Motorcitysoul bows down to the soul and techno history of Detroit, but it also humorously points towards Vogt’s hometown Rüsselsheim, which is the headquarters of automotive brand Opel, and thus, might be regarded as the German Motor City. The suffix “soul” refers to Vogt’s diverse musical output, which injects real soul into personal interpretations of jazz, pop, house and techno.
Motorcitysoul releases might be described as classy deep house paying tribute to what shapes their own name. In the recent past the duo has released on labels like Aus Music, Freerange Records, Tsuba Records and C-Rock’s own imprints STIR15 and Lo-Fi Stereo. At present, Motorcitysoul spin discs for their Friday night series “Going deeper” at Cocoon Club, Frankfurt. While Väth makes the floor melt, Motorcitysoul put the micro a little deeper, sometimes accompanied by Heiko Himmighoffen’s percussion and often supported by DJs and live acts.

No matter what happens after the Opel takeover in Rüsselsheim, Motorcitysoul are excellently positioned to resist the downturn – simply by continuing to do their thing.
