Munk--The Radio Sessions - Electronic Beats On Air with Munk, 2009-04

Munk is the musical project of Italian and German DJ, musician, producer and artist Mathias Modica. He is also one of two bosses of Munich's avant-garde disco and pop label Gomma. The in-demand label releases Danish indie-disco band Who Made Who, Headman and Box Codax - the solo project of Franz Ferdinand's Nick McCarthy. Modica also designs T-shirts, does video art and organises exhibitions around the world (The Mondo Gomma Shows).

To date, Munk has released two albums. The first one ("Aperitivo", 2005) included the indie disco hymn "Kick Out the Chairs" which Mathias recorded with his old friend James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Micky Moonlight aka Midnight Mike, now on Ed Banger, also contributed to the album. Last year's "Cloudbuster" featured three songs with Italian actor Asia Argento. Other participants on "Cloudbuster" included Mattie Safer from The Rapture and Ed Banger and Justice manager Busy P aka Pedro Winters. Busy P fell in love with the first single "Live Fast Die Old" and proposed to do his own version.

Both Munk albums were loved by music fans around the globe. The music press grew veritably euphoric about the band: UK’s NME described Munk as "super great…it’s like a German DFA" while I-D magazine called the music "Cool – in all senses of the word". Additionally, multiple magazines elected both records as “Album of the Month.”

Besides playing live, Mathias Modica DJs in hot clubs from Rio to Tokyo, Stockholm to Sydney, as well as cutting-edge fashion, art and magazine events and impressive festivals like Sonar and V festival in Australia.
