Red Rack'em--Session for Electronic Beats Radio, 2009-07

Danny Berman aka Red Rack’em aka Hot Coins aka Marlinspike is best known for his cheeky pirate remixes of soul and disco material. His reworks have been supported by the likes of Unabombers, Todd Terje, Swag, Yam Who as well as Prins Thomas who encouraged Berman to get his own productions onto the decks. In 2007 Berman concentrated on the Hot Coins project releasing ‘The Laissez Faire EP’ on Society Records, which was well supported by several big names. Releases followed on Tirk Recordings (under the Hot Coins moniker), Untracked and Deepfreeze which gained Berman further attention and led to a slew of remix requests and bookings at events like Glastobury, Snowbombing and Bestival.

Gilles Peterson is one of Berman’s most important supporters, regularly spinning Red Rack’em and Hot Coins tracks and remixes on Radio 1 and extolling Berman for ‘not being able to put a foot wrong right now’.

Berman draws inspiration for his different monikers Marlinspike (standing for cutting edge Detroit 2 step), Hot Coins (known for wonky disco and cosmic boogie) and Red Rack’em (beatdown house and glitchy hip hop) from diverse genres like dancehall, disco, hip-hop, post-punk, house and krautrock showing that a diverse musical education always pays off sooner or later.
