Exclusive Yello DJ mix for Electronic Beats Radio

I was thrilled to be asked to create this mix, as I am a huge fan of Yello. Boris Blank provided a list of songs that he felt were influential to Yello's sound, and left us to create a mix however we chose. Initially I planned to record a straight DJ set of Yello music. However, looking over the list of songs that Blank sent us, I was pleased to discover that I already owned many of the tracks and saw an opportunity to do something more interesting.

Yello have a totally unique sound. The way drama and humour are combined with music that makes you want to dance and yet has passages, movements, acts and intervals, was a constant source of inspiration for me. I wanted to try and capture the unique Yello spirit by combining songs that sound classically Yello with those that don't, while keeping in mind the duo’s surprising and extremely diverse influences. This was actually quite a difficult task, as the range of tempos varies dramatically through various points of the mix, but making the mix flow and capturing the distinctive Yello elements ultimately proved very rewarding.
