Cristian Vogel

With over two decades of work, Cristian Vogel has become one of the most influential in unconventional Techno to date. Originally from Chile, Vogel fled with his family to the U.K. in the early ’80s, pushed out by reigning dictator, General Pinochet. Soon after arriving in the U.K. he began experimenting with electronic music and in 1992 enrolled at the University of Sussex in Brighton to pursue it academically.

Shortly before graduating, Vogel released his own music which caught ears in the underground and made its way to electro producer Dave Clarke. He then released the Infra EP, which brought him wide recognition and eventually landed him recording deals with both Force Inc. and Trope. In 1994, Vogel debuted his album, Beginning to Understand, on Force Inc. He was the first UK artist to release on Berlin’s legendary Tresor imprint.

In 1998, he teamed up with Jamie Lidell for an electro-funk group called Super_Collider. They debuted with a hit, “Darn (Cold Way O’ Lovin’)”, and followed with the album, Head On in 1999. Super_Collider’s then released one more album, Raw Digits, in 2002 on Vogel’s newly founded Rise Robots Rise imprint.

Vogel went on to form Station 55 Records and signed indie rock band, Night Of The Brain, in 2007. After releasing their debut, he began working on his own experimental material to be released on Belgian label Sub Rosa in 2010. In 2012, he signed to Shitkatapult and went in a more rhythmic direction with his next album, The Inertials, and even crossed into dubstep. In 2014, he released his next Shitkatapult album, Polyphonic Beings, before focusing on his back catalog. He came back again in 2016 with the compilation Classics Remastered 1993-1998, released by Sub Rosa, and his third album for Shitkatapult, The Assistenz.
