From rolling minimal techno to melodic cutting-edge tracks.

Laszlo Papp , founder of Budapest collective NVC, has been creating music since the age of 12. Subotage was formed in 2004 with two members at a local festival, and their first gigs mainly consisted of unannounced, unexpected performances in the night-life of Budapest. Today Subotage is only one man. His sets move from rolling minimal techno to melodic cutting-edge tracks, and under the alias Nitelight he explores experimental electronica, ambient, trip-hop, dubstep, downtempo and several other styles.

Hungary’s Laszlo Papp Hungary aka Subotage is a producer who also boasts a career as a computer engineer with a specialism audio controlling. His musical career was set in motion at age twelve when he started experimenting with crappy DJ equipment. Four years later he was the singer in Maradandó Változások and in 2010 he picked up guitar for the legendary Hungarian band Anima Sound System—but his interest in electronic music was never far behind. In 2004 he founded the No Vidra Crew, a collective of DJs, producers, VJs, designers and photographers from Budapest. And those DJ skills honed as a teen? They’ve landed him in clubs throughout Europe supporting James Holden, Jon Hopkins, Ellen Allien, The Chemical Brothers, Gold Panda and Apparat.

Subotage is currently in the studio working on new projects but we’re pleased he took some time out to record this mix featuring melodic and mutant strains of electronic music—just the way we like it.
