EB Video Premiere: David Douglas “Higher”

This May will see the Dutch master of twilit synth pop David Douglas return to Applescal’s Atomnation label for his forthcoming album Moon Observations. A natural continuation of 2012’s Royal Horticultural Society, with its powdery blocks of chords and swathes of treated vocals, first single “Higher” press gangs smudged funkiness and porous synths into the service of the slow-building atmosphere. The mood is extended into the track’s accompanying video—today’s exclusive EB video premiere. Self-directed by David himself, it’s something of a poem to urban, street lamp-lit nights squandered in subways and car parks. Check it above and then go listen to the whole EP—we’re particular fond of the rework by London producer Throwing Snow, too.

David Douglas’ Higher EP is out now on Atomnation.
