Can A Supercomputer Write Emotional Pop Songs?
IBM’s famous supercomputer Watson has already proven how smart it is by beating two human opponents on Jeopardy. Now composer Richard Daskas is giving Watson another challenge: to write emotional pop songs targeted to specific moods.
“It listens to this piece and it deconstructs this piece of music, learns from it, and gets inspired by it,” said computer scientist Janani Mukundan in an interview with CBS News. While there have been recent developments in the creation of AI-based music creation, Watson would be the first computer to ever come up with songs based on mood. The only downside is that the machine is not constricted by human bias or flaws, which will probably lead to pretty boring tunes or the eventual extinction of the human race.
