Wi-fi didn’t exist in antiquity, let alone 3D printers, but what ancient civilizations did have was an eye for woven patterns and a thirst for perfection. In this spirit, Ricky van Broekhoven and designer Olivier van Herpt have come up with the sound-to-matter project “Solid Vibration,” which uses a 3D printer to convert soundwaves to artifacts that resemble ancient pottery. “The objects spin as clay is applied in response to the amplified noise, forging visual markings into the clay by way of audio wavelengths,” This Is Colossal reports.
