Paul Oomen’s immersive 4DSOUND system is being given a permanent home. The newly inaugurated Institute of Spatial Sound is described as “a new global center for research and development in the field of spatial sound and immersive sonic environments” that features a fully omnidirectional 60.12 sound system spanning four floors. The Institute will provide a staging ground for “interdisciplinary creative production, education and collaborative research on the effects of spatial listening practice on awareness, social interaction and wellbeing.” It’s based at Art Quarter Budapest and is currently accepting applications for 20 artist residencies.

A two-day program on October 16 and 17 inaugurates the space with live performances, lectures and works created for 4DSOUND over the past four years; find full info here, and watch Oomen demo the system in the enclosed video.
