Senegal Launches Africa's First Music Download Service
The Guardian reports that “Africa’s first homegrown platform for legal music downloads has launched in Senegal with a mission to promote African artists, pay them properly and fight internet piracy.” The Website is called MusikBi, and almost 200 artists have signed up already.
It’s the first of its kind in Africa and the main goal is to pay artists fairly, as many African artists “cannot live comfortably by the proceeds of their work” says Moustapha Diop, the project developer. Downloads are enabled through PayPal or mobile phone.
