Real synaesthesia? This Is How You Can See Musical Notes
Have you ever wondered what music looks like?
We know we sure have. And while this experience is generally limited to the small percentage of the population with synaesthesia—the blurring of the senses—, a new work by artists Jeff Louviere and Vanessa Brown lets us all get in on the action.
Called Resonantia, the project is an excursion into cymatics, which is the patterns that sound waves produce when they interact with physical objects. Louviere and Brown captured these sound waves by using a camera, a vat of black water, a frequency generator, a speaker, a guitar tuner and an overhead light.
