In another victory for the development of the man-machine, Carnegie Mellon engineers have developed a prototype for your smartwatch that turns the skin of your arm into a fully functional, 2-dimensional touchscreen controller.
By wearing a special “signal-emitting” ring, a high-frequency electrical current is sent out every time your finger touches the skin. The phases of the pulses are then measured by electrodes attached to the watch, allowing variable finger positions to control a variety of functions of the watch including selecting FLO Rida tracks or creating shortcuts for your favorite apps by “dropping them on to the skin”.
(Presumably that means remembering which freckle was Gmail and which was Snapchat).
