It’s hard to believe, but cars didn’t always speak using the voice talents of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Daria. Once upon a time, your car had what was basically a tiny little phonograph up in it. The 1981-84 Nissan Maxima controlled these miniature record players with analog circuitry, and anyone interested in poking around in them could still find a functioning piece of auto history, but you can check out the exploratory video above courtesy of Autoweek for an up-close look inside the tech. Side-note: The author of the video had a pretty sick noise band.
