Reliq: The Beauty of Rage

Meet one of the most intense live bands you'll ever see. Reliq have only been around a short time, but the Berlin-based group have crafted a sound both unique and breathtaking. With searing synthesizers and guitar, crashing drums and vocals that flirt between the banshee wails of Siouxsie and the screams of black metal weirdos like Gnaw Their Tongues. It's angry, raw post-hardcore that grabs your face and slams it into the stage, but don't be fooled into thinking Carolin Langner's vocals are just empty screaming for moshpit mayhem: Reliq create an atmosphere of ritualistic energy that's pure magick. Indeed, drummer Brandon Rosenbluth aka xorzyzt runs events under the title BL4CK M4G1CK, and his promotional video for his previous Drop Dead Festival showcase shows a clear interest in the okkvlt. His ceremonial video/noise project dev01ded with guitarist Valquire and Langner cements this even further.

Currently Reliq is on hiatus as they focus on personal projects, including Langner's new group BRUISES. Together with Reliq's former keyboardist Phillip Hohenwarter, it's a more subdued form of power, but power nonetheless; picture a young PJ Harvey on acid. We're hoping like hell to see them play live again, however. The sound of a universe exploding is one you never forget.
