Spoek Mathambo - Afro-futuristic Township Tech

Nthato Mokgata aka Spoek Mathambo had an early start in music: the Johannesburg native started rapping at the age of 10, being mostly influenced by 90s US rappers and the Johannesburg scene. Upon his move to Capetown in 2003, Spoek ventured further into his hobby turned profession, having his first release, „The Fantastic Kill“, a collaboration with DJ Sibot and Watkin Tudor Jones of Die Antwoord.
Over the years he has released more and more „club-related“ music on prominent dance music labels such as Boys Noize Records, Shitkatapult, Get Physical and Man Recordings, having collaborated with the likes of Sweat.X, Playdoe, Schlachthofbronx, Swedish rap artist Adam Tensta, Sekta, Douster, Djedjotronic, Matt Shadetek, Boemklatsch and Cerebral Vortex.
August 2010 saw the release of Spoek’s debuet album „Mshini Wam“ on world-renown BBE Records, which should be the blueprint to the genre Township Tech, describing the vast soundscape of South Africas vivid house music scene. With growind success and reputation, Spoek was able to ink a multi-album deal with Seattle-based imprint Sub Pop. Recently having blessed us with EP „Put Some Red On It“, Spoek is now ready to bring his sophomore album to the public.
