Stefano e Bene neither live in Italy nor are they Italians. However, it is safe to say that they both share a common love for italo disco. Pursuing their vision of a redefined disco sound, the duo’s first release has just been signed by Compost´s new sub-label Compost Disco.
For their first single ‘Why Your Love’ Stefano e Bene got support from Hard Ton, the biggest Disco Queen of this decade, who provides an octave range comparable to the one of Mariah Carey.

Hard Ton himself, Katzbatz and Snuff Crew remixed the track that can be found in the playlists of some of our favourite DJ’s like Kowesix of Moonbootica, Karotte, Chris Todd of Crazy P and Joris Voorn.

The Grid founder Richard D. Norris has been busy creating psychedelic edits of forgotten pearls and remixes for artists like The Chemical Brothers and Franz Ferdinand as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve together with Erol Alkan for the last few years. With the release of Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Re-Animations Vol. 1 in 2009 it was time for both Norris and Alkan to focus on their solo projects again. Norris started working on the debut album for his The Time and Space Machine project, processing his imprint into Psychedelia 2.0 and bringing together rare vintage sound design with today’s production tools.

In his mix for Electronic Beats Radio, Norris has compiled some gaudy fruits with a shiny creme. You may look forward to a unique compilation of tracks that once formed a special facet of music history and that you won’t ever find in someone else’s playlist nor hear on one of the 14 arena’s of your favourite dance festival. Enjoy this special trip, but please don’t blame us for troubles with your buddies because you are heading up for Woodstock instead of visiting your clique’s favourite rave.

Dutch duo TJ Kong and Nuno Dos Santos have been releasing electro-organic sounds on Compost records for a few years now, gaining well-deserved attention across the club land, and forward to Detroit. Always staying true to a more sophisticated musical approach that keeps the required space for processing emotions into harmony, rather than just arranging 2-bar-patterns.

With their album After dark, my Sweet TJ Kong & Nuno Dos Santos showcase a stylistic portfolio with a bunch of character featuring artists like Robert Owens, Nicolette (you might know her unique voice from her appearance on Massive Attack’s Protection), Jemini aka Joanne Gairy (vocalist of Ben Mono’s Jesus was a B-Boy).

In their silky smooth mix for Electronic Beats Radio the duo starts off with gentle deep house, balancing the right quantum of harmony with slick grooves and discreet, but classy vocal tracks - a perfect mix when warming up for a hot summer night.

Fritz Zander and Sven von Thülen met at the turn of the century at Berlin's infamous WMF club, where Sven had just started his first residency, while Fritz was doing the lights. The two hit it off right away and eventually started making music together, which led them to Bpitch Control and resulted in a handfull releases on Ellen Allien's label and a residency at Watergate club. Zander VT's newest EP "Trying Some More" just came out on Bpitch Control.

One can have at least two approaches to music. One for all for the fame and glory. The other for the sake of making music itself. Arandel definitely belongs to the second kind of musician, as there has never been a face or at least a real person to be connected with the musical construct. And what’s the upside of leaving all responsibilities and prospects behind? It’s absolute musical freedom which climaxes on Arandel’s album “In D” and in the unique approach the unnamed artist behind this project has taken: “The idea was to create a sound that would represent for music what Lars Von Trier’s Dogma 95 did for cinema.” The dogma in this case was refraining from using samples and besides that, also leaving all the other rules behind.

So what awaits when the mysterious person behind this projects steps up to deliver a mix for Electronic Beats? Obviously no narrow minded dance music but rather inspirational sound blueprints from experimental artist who has chosen the same musical route as Arandel. And as already said, Arandel doesn’t do it for earthly pleasures but in this case for the sake of showing the world some of his (or hers) favoured tracks.

A real superhero brought Dancehall music to the next level. The Jamaica-bred veteran who lost his right arm during the secret zombie war of 1984 and replaced it by his infamous laser gun has most definitely changed the genre forever.
Not by using his rocket-propelled skateboard to fight un-dead evil but rather by bringing such different musical genres as Baile Funk, Punk, Hip Hop and of course Dancehall together and creating one of last year’s biggest club hypes around the world.
Rumours have been spreading that it is not the major who is responsible for this mind-blowing music, but rather his close friends, Diplo and Switch – a producer and DJ duo from Great Britain and Philadelphia.
Diplo and Majors Lazers emcee Skerrit Boy blazed up the Electronic Beats Festival in Cologne with their unique soundsystem show. Here it again on a rewwwwind selecta.

Marcel Fengler’s musical influences present themselves double tracked. His early teenager years are stamped by Hip Hop from crews like NWA, Gang Starr and A Tribe called Quest, who have been his undisputed heroes. Even today, Fengler spins some Hip Hop, but only in private. His interest in electronic
music on the other hand has been inspired by continuous experiences in Berlin based techno clubs like E-Werk in the early 90s. The heavy, progressive synth- and acid sounds of this era still wield some magical power on Fengler today. „As the musical range today is vaster than ever, it is really important to me in which context I’m playing out my records. That’s why I love traditional labels like Planet E, M-Plant and Internal and artists like Ron Trent, Kenny Larkin, Kevin Saunderson, and Chez Damier as much as I like contemporary artists like Sleeeparchive or Lessismore.“
Since the mid 90s, Marcel played at „Club im Park“, a youth club in Fürstenwalde, where he later launched a party series called „SC 93“ together with Marcel Dettmann. In 1997 he started to play at Berlin’s Tresor among other clubs and when Berghain opened in 2004, he became a resident on our big techno floor.
„It is important to me that music tells kind of a story using varied styles from all eras. That’s why I favour to build my sets up, then down again. It has to be varied and it has to snake through the night in waves.“
In 2007 Marcel has started to produce his own music as well. His tracks and remixes are directly influenced by the heavy Techno sound of the Berghain. His complex drum sounds and his generally rough sound design connect seamlessly to his often more than five hour long DJ sets.

Austrian DJ and producer Peter Kruder is best known for his work with Richard Dorfmeister, known internationally for their downbeat sounds and of course their remix work as Kruder & Dorfmeister.

Peter Kruder’s DJ sets are legendary, from hard and fast peak-time standouts to slow, soulful and eclectic tunes for when a little refreshment is needed. What is most apparent while listening to Kruder as a producer is that he simply adores music. His innate understanding of music and the making of it is an indubitable factor in his ability to consistently release excellent material.

Munich based Producer/ DJ Christian Prommer, the master of drums and member of the projects Fauna Flash (with Roland Appel), Trüby Trio (with Rainer Trüby and Roland Appel) and Voom:Voom (with Peter Kruder and Roland Appel) began experimenting with beats and electronics in the late 80's when still at school studying drums.

Djing with the Trüby Trio brought Christian Prommer to countries like the US, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and all over Europe. Christian Prommer’s productions with Fauna Flash and the Trüby Trio defined what became the "Sound of Compost Records" in the past decade.

Now they have joined forces to provide the latest Radio Session for Electronic Beats

For sometime now Norway and Sweden have musically overshadowed Denmark. Yet over the past five years Denmark has produced a spell of household names - Trentemøller lead the charge followed by friend Kasper Bjørke and avant-garde rockers WhoMadeWho.
Turboweekend is now the latest sensation from the country of five-and-a-half million. Formed in 2006 the group was born in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Fusing underground pop/rock and electronica the humble group has gone to play in mega festival Roskilde, Beautiful Festival and Start! Festival. Their heartfelt lyrics and powerful sound has won over many fans at home and aboard.
In 2007 they released their debut album Night Shift and were nominated as Best Act at two of Denmark’s biggest award shows - P3 Gold and Zulu Awards. Their single ‘Into You’ brought critical acclaim and left a lasting impression on Scandinavian’s musical landscape.
Ghost of a Chance was Turboweekend’s second album and they released it via Mermaid Records. More poignant than their previous album the new album sounds a lot less edited and more hand played, sticking more towards a band like concept.

Having been on tour for most of 2009, Turboweekend played at Electronic Beats Festival Graz, Electronic Beats Festival Cologne and the Electronic Beats Festival Prague.
This session is a recording of the band’s set at the Electronic Beats Festival Graz and is a fantastic performance that captures their richly detailed sound.

Hrdvsion, aka Nathan Johnson, is part of a lineage that includes musical mischief-makers like Aphex Twin or Squarepusher and composers of musique concrete like Schaeffer and Varèse. Growing up as a brother of Mathew Johnson, Nathan was exposed to musical instruments and keyboards from an early age on. Fascinated by the possibilities and limitations of the 127-preset-keyboard, Nathan concentrated on modelling the machines towards kinky sounds. These early experiences were quite formative. You can still find Nathan diving into the abyss of music software, retrieving hidden sounds and bugs which he later processes in his productions. Considering his familiar surroundings and that Squarepusher’s LPs Big Loada and Hard Normal Daddyhave been amongst Nathan’s most inspiring records, his love for outside-the-box-thinking in terms of musical elements is what you’d expect.
Despite finding himself part of a burgeoning international scene, Nathan (as Hrdvsion) maintained his own style, refusing to compromise or worry about what people thought of his music. In the last eight years he’s released a bunch of unique and lauded 12”s and EPs, remixed everyone from Dominik Eulberg, Filterwolf and Inkwell (amongst others) and spun sets at London’s Fabric and Glasgow’s Arches as well as festivals like Mutek (Canada) and Sonar (Barcelona).
“My work has always felt more like a personal journal, than art,” he explains. “I wasn’t trying to be an artist, I was just expressing myself. I became so wrapped up in it that I became really kind of “fuck you” to the techno and dance scenes and wrote these really challenging songs that veered away from the instant gratification thing. I ended up going further than I would have, more radical and unfriendly, because I grew worried that I might somehow lose control of my vision.”
Nowadays, Nathan has relaxed a bit. He resides in Berlin, where he has spent the last year or so putting the finishing touches to his “real” debut album Where Did You Just Go? While the record offers more conventional house, techno and electro structures than previous works, it maintains the Hrdvsion obsession with glitches, distortion and general circuit-mashing.

Two respected electronic producers from Europe joined forces to take their shared love of early electronica and disco to the next level by exploring the possibilities of analogue production and introducing classic songwriting from some of the best indie vocalists from USA and Europe. I´m talking about the group Black Van which consists of Kris Menace and KoweSix.

KoweSix is one half of Moonbootica which is one of the most exciting producer and DJ projects to have emerged from Hamburg in recent years. After two studio albums, five mix compilations, nearly 50 remixes KoweSix is already a real heavyweight in dance music and wanted to express his love for the slightly calmer waters of disco before he embarks on recording the next Moonbootica album.

Kris Menace is known for his anthemic releases such as ‘Discopolis’ and his collaborations with Fred Falke, Felix Da Housecat and Alan Braxe as well as his latest ‘”diosyncracies’” album. Kris has also remixed some of the biggest names in music including his classic take on LCD Soundsystem’s ‘North American Scum’ which James Murphy loved and the pair have kept in touch ever since. This has led to the debut Black Van single “Yearning” set for release on DFA in February 2010.

Living in Amsterdam with strong Nigerian ties, Shinedoe’s love of music and passion for dance provided the only fuel she needed to start experimenting with mixes in the early nineties. Her ability to create a personalised fusion of warm and funky sounds switching from warm Detroit techno to US garage ensured she was an in-demand DJ by the time she was nineteen.

As the founding spirit of Intacto Records, Shinedoe pursues her very own vision of electronic dance music.

Her first single ‘Dilemma’ on 100% Pure became the 2004 summer anthem of Cocoon Club Ibiza. In the same year she founded Intacto Records together with Dylan Hermelijn (the man behind 2000 and One) bearing a melting pot of styles ranging from Chicago to Detroit, minimal techno to tech house.

Shinedoe can be seen spinning vinyl around the globe and wherever she performs, it is her energy, radiance and unique ability to convey human emotions through electronic music that has enabled her to transcend borders and cultures and leave the crowds breathless.
Always keeping her sets interesting and dedicated to the dance floor, it’s Shinedoe’s blend of funky grooves techno, house, Chicago, acid and Detroit influences that are now recognised as an integral part of her DNA.

Check out her set with contributions of Echonomist, Peace Division, Joris Voorn, Burnski and many more.

Little Dragons are a totally unique alt-pop group hailing from Gothenburg in Sweden. Made up of high school friends Yukimi Nagano, Erik Bodin, Fredrik Källgren Wallin and Håkan Wirenstrand the group have been recording music together since the mid nineties, although the first Little Dragon single was not released until 2006.

Currently they have two fantastic albums under their belts - their self-titled debut and Machine Dreams. They have also collaborated with the likes of Koop, Andreas Saag and The Gorillaz.

Delphic, a Manchester based trio of Rick Boardman, Matt Cocksedge and James Cook, all in their early twenties, create their music on laptops at home.
Once Delphic started putting on their own little gigs about a year ago, things snowballed pretty fast. Live footage shown on Manchester TV station Channel M brought the A&R men scrabbling up the M6 to sign them.

Their UK debut single ‘Counterpoint’ was released on legendary R&S Records (home for the likes of Aphex Twin, Dave Angel, Juan Atkins / Model 500, Ken Ishii) that was re-launched in 2008. The fact that label boss Renaat Vandepapeliere had picked the tune (which is actually atypical for the more Techno and Electronica focussed imprint) suggests that there’s a demand for output that is crossing the lines from Indie to Stadium Rock to Techno and Rave, boasting hints of Orbital and New Order whilst not standing in their shadows.

Through R&S, Berlin-based producer-remixer Ewan Pearson heard the band and is now on board to produce their album which will be released through Polydor on Delphic’s own Chimeric label. Meanwhile Bloc Party also became fans and invited them on a European tour.

Delphic, however, don’t revel in their success. There’s no sense of entitlement, no notion they may soon be falling out of London’s trendiest clubs at 5.00 AM - one more reason to take the trio seriously.

Mathew Jonson

Having being taught drums, percussion, clarinet and classical piano, Canadian Mathew Jonson grew into music from an early age. He had his first appearances on stage at the age of 11, attracting attention for his ability to improvise instead of just following written music. Driven by his father’s interest for early electronic music and instruments, Mathew grappled with a new form of sound and musical perception utilising keyboards and basic sequencers. Whilst many contemporaries were struggling for a reduction of their piano lessons, Mathew was just a teenager when he fell in love with his machines. For Mathew getting introduced to classical instruments came years before!

In 1986 a visit to the monumental Word Fair in Vancouver focussing on the transmission of humans and information in the digital age, boosted the youngster’s fascination for computer based creation and composition. From his late teens Mathew regularly performed in and around Vancouver, fuelling his interest in live performance and using synths.

When entering the international stage of electronic music with the release of New Identity EP on Itiswhatitis Records in 2001, years of experience as musician had gone into the record. Each of Mathew’s follow-up releases (remember the milestones ‘Folding Space’, ‘Decompression’, ‘Typerope’, ‘The Return of the Zombie Bikers’ or ‘Marionette’) bared some of his genius and the majority of his early releases were licensed for countless mix compilations from the likes of Dan Bell, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier and Sven Väth. Just 3 years after having released his first record, Mathew Jonson was awarded ‘Best Producer’ by several music magazines, not to mention getting to remix artists like Nelly Furtado Moby, The Chemical Brothers and Swayzak.

Despite fusing a variety of genres like Jazz, Techno, House and Drum n Bass with his side projects Cobblestone Jazz and The Modern Deep Left Quartet, Mathew has established an own distinct sound. Wherever Mathew puts a track’s focus, he typically seems to enter territories that nobody before has dared to enter. In doing so he makes use of synthesizers in quite uncommon ways, playing and improvising a lot in a jazzy way, strangely arpeggiating and deforming sounds to an extent that makes them sound not from this earth, shimmed by archaic drum patterns and raw bass lines.

Lucas Hunter & Nat Self make up the production duo Zombie Disco Squad. Having started with regular mixtapes on the web in 2006, Zombie Disco Squad gained special interest for their track Straight Boy being downloaded 10.000 times.

Influenced by Baile Funk, Baltimore Bass, African grooves, jacking rhythms and unsung languages, Zombie Disco Squad emphasize the tribal side of house music with a certain fondness for rhythm, groove and lead instruments that play simple melodies.

In an inter-linked world it did not take much time until radio hosts, DJs, clubs and labels paid attention to the duo’s output. Already having played in the biggest clubs around the world, in 2009 Zombie Disco Squad were asked to rework tracks from the likes of Erik Hassle, Drop The Lime, Kasper Bjorke, Jesse Rose and Uffie.

Of course, musical versatility is always welcome at Electronic Beats. But seldom has one person touched as many genres as Richard Dorfmeister: Downtempo, Dub, Electronica, Trip-Hop, Ambient, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Drum’n’Bass have been among the many stops in the musical career of Mr. Dorfmeister. The Vienna born musician, who later went on to study guitar and transverse flute, spent the early years of his musical career rather unsuccessfully with various Vienna bands, a time during which he deeply absorbed the unique spirit of his hometown that still today finds its way into his music.

His breakthrough came when he joined forces with Peter Kruder, which set off a surge of electronic music enthusiasm far beyond the boarders of Austria. Their highly-acclaimed remixes for international artists as Madonna, Depeche Mode, Trüby Trio, Lamb and Rony Size still mark the climax of their joint career, while their label G-Stone Records is still in full effect. Richard went on his pursue his own musical interests and ended up creating the ambient group Tosca and his project “Richard Dorfmeister con Madrid de los Austrias”, which again caters to different audiences.

His almost universal love for music makes our latest Electronic Beats mix so very unpredictable and exciting. Find out what’s waiting for you.

23-year-old Pangaea aka Kevin Mc Auley began making music with a two-track mixer, a keyboard and a tape deck as a schoolboy. Discovering dubstep via the sounds of Mala in the backroom of a Leeds club in 2005, Kevin was inspired to found the city’s first dubstep night, Ruffage, and launched himself into the studio.
Pangaea enters 2009 as an established DJ/producer and co-owner of Hessle Audio with fellow stalwarts Ramadanman and Ben UFO. Their young label is already the subject of much critical acclaim from discerning dubstep and techno fans and responsible for progressive, landmark releases including TRG’s ‘Broken Heart’, Ramadanman’s ‘Blimey’, Pangaea’s own ‘Coiled EP’, ‘Router’ and ‘You & I’ alongside material from likeminded producers Untold and Martyn.
His DJ schedule is rapidly picking up pace with consistent bookings across Europe and a burgeoning reputation as a true pioneer behind the decks; a notion backed up by Mary Anne Hobbs who described his recent mix for BBC Radio 1 as “texturally one of the most exquisite mixes of the year…breathtakingly beautiful in every way.”
